Ipo Watershed is a critical part of the Umiray-Angat-Ipo watershed system that supplies 98% of Metro Manila’s water. The forest cover of the watershed is essential in recharging the ground water, preventing erosion and oxygen production. Unfortunately, only less than 40% of forest cover remains.
In 2017, concerned mountaineers made a call for action to stop the construction of an illegal road in Mt.Balagbag. This sparked the #ReforestTheRoad movement. Hundereds of trees were planted which successfully stopped the illegal road. Because of the movement, people and agencies became aware of the deforestation on this area of Ipo Watershed.
Our aim is to bring back what has been lost in the watershed. Aside from planting/nurturing trees, we also contribute to our #ProjectRanger initiatives where proceeds are used to buy uniform, tools, equipment the rangers need to fulfill their duties in the watershed and to provide food subsidies such as rice allowances. We also have a fund that they can use for emergencies and family assistance.
Get involved today and help us restore the area into a healthy watershed!
